Jessie J rocks Glastonbury

I was already a huge Jessie J fan, and after watching all the videos I could possibly find from her Glastonbury gig yesterday, needless to say I admire her even more. Not letting her broken foot slow her down, Jessie defied doctor’s orders and – literally – took the thrown on the Other Stage, rocking the audience with her contagious energy and powerful vocals. Oops! Amy did it again…

This is such a shame. Amy Winehouse has called off the European tour for this summer after showing up for a disastrous gig in Belgrade last week. This video posted on YouTube shows the singer in such a mess you can’t avoid feeling sorry for her.

I remember Amy’s breakthrough in 2006 with her Back to Black album and thinking we hadn’t seen such a brilliant singer in a long time. Her struggle with alcohol and drugs was always clear, overshadowing her career from the beggining and making endless headlines of arrests, drug busts and boozy gigs. That made her so unpredictable and meant anything could happen during her shows.  Continue reading

Marilyn Monroe – The Last Sitting

I went to see The Last Sitting today. The last photographs of Marilyn Monroe by photographer Bert Stern for Vogue magazine show a different side of the iconic star, taken just six weeks before her tragic death.

Presented in several cities over the last few years, the unseen pictures are now being showcased at the Cascais Cultural Centre in Lisbon until the 17th July. Continue reading

London Street Photography exhibition shows the Big Smoke through the ages

If you’re interested in an extraordinary collection of photographs of London from the 19th century to the present, this exhibition is for you.

Open to the public for free until 4th September, London Street Photography will wow you with enigmatic and varied images. It showcases over 200 prints in both black and white and colour by dozens of photographers through the ages that really catch the eye.

I was particularly moved by the way street photographers have captured the essence of London and its people, from their social struggles to some of their best moments. This is London is like you’ve never seen before, a great analysis of the relationship between photographers, the people and the streets.
